SHORTS FROM THE SHELF features short serialized fiction by author Shannon Muir, administrator of SHANNON MUIR’S THE PULP AND MYSTERY SHELF, that may be later released as part of e-book or print collections. The story line featured currently is “Doonah Cross Me,” a prequel for the character of Doonah Cross who premiered on Wattpad last year that will run over the next several days.
This is Part One. Blog tours will resume in mid-February.
“Doonah, what has gotten in to you?”
“Thought you could double cross me, did you? Sneak around with other girls, Tarran?”
“Well, that’s what you get for snooping in the first place.”
“If you weren’t lying to me, I wouldn’t have to snoop in the first place, now would I? From what I heard, she’s an amazing singer. And I really do mean heard. Went to the performance at the bar and everything, and I saw you playing keyboards for her.”
Doonah saw that she’d definitely caught Tarran off guard.
“I didn’t see you there.”
“In that lighting, it’s a bit hard to see out into the audience. Especially when you watched her every moment you weren’t looking at the keyboard.”
“That’s not fair, Doonah. I had to know when to take my cues.”
Doonah threw the sheet music they’d been practicing before the big blow up at Tarran.
“Well, you better hope she’s as damn good of a songwriter. We’re done. No more performing together, no more of my music. I’m going to make it on my own.”
She could see Tarran trying not to laugh.
“Doonah, you’ve been saying that since we were kids. Yet you’ve never made a move to leave.”
“Because you didn’t want to go, and I didn’t want to go without you. But if you don’t want me, looks like I don’t have much of a choice.”
