You could call it the straw that broke the camel’s back but it was more like a Montana forest timber.
Just when Vangie Vale’s life was getting back to normal after a murder that rocked her little Rocky Mountain tourist town, she found herself in the middle of another murder… as the chief suspect.Vangie stood shocked on the side of the curb as the sheriff stretched yellow crime scene tape around the front of her new bakery. Wouldn’t this make a lovely headline in next week’s paper: Local Baker Kills Parishioner With Pudding. Vangie’s road back to good graces as a part-time pastor was bumpy enough already. This would be a roadblock. Can’t have that.
Interview with the Author
What initially got you interested in writing?
I’ve been fascinated by stories and by the way we respond to stories since I was a kid. It led to me telling a lot of stories as a kid. J And as I grew up, I moved my fictional thoughts into book form, thankfully. But wow, I used to watch people and the way they responded to shock and surprise, and I remember being so intrigued with how the listeners and readers responded when they liked something. It was fascinating.
What genres do you write in?
I write mostly cozy mystery right now, but I also still write romantic suspense, and love it!
What drew you to writing these specific genres?
I love puzzles, so I love the “whodunit” aspect of cozy mystery, and then, of course, the surprise. That’s still my favorite part.
How did you break into the field?
With this series, actually! I was writing romantic suspense (adventure romance, I call it) before this. But they’re all really mystery at their core. J
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?
That Montana is awesome, and that pastors are real people.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
I love the feeling of a book being done, and that first reader response. Still my favorite thing, I think.
What do you find most challenging about writing?
Definitely trying to make sure I tied up all the threads. I tend to write complicated books, so there’s a lot to tie up in the last third of the book. That’s totally the most challenging part. J
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field?
Learn your craft. I’m still learning, and I love it. But the craft is always growing, and it’s so important to keep learning.
What type of books do you enjoy reading?
Everything, honestly. I read all genres.
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you?
Well, like Vangie (my main character), I also went to Seminary. So I actually have experience with being a pastor. Not quite like her. But close. J
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work?
Find me on Facebook or Instagram. I’m there a lot!
