When private detective Cooper “Coop” Harrington meets record label mogul Grayson Taylor at a swank gathering of country music artists and politicians he never imagines he’ll be investigating his brutal murder less than twenty-four hours later.

The suspects are plentiful. More than a handful of people could have wanted him dead. Retained by Taylor’s widow, Coop works alongside his best friend and Chief of Detectives, Ben Mason. The investigation leads Coop and Ben to visit the luxurious mansions of recording industry magnates, navigate the murky undercurrents of the political world, and probe complicated family matters. Scandalous indiscretions, secrets, and hints of corruption swirl in the midst of their pursuit of the killer.

Coop’s faithful friend and assistant, Annabelle and his loyal golden retriever, Gus, both lend a hand during the investigation. Even his Aunt Camille mines the local gossip mill to unearth potential killers with motive. Yet the case seems hopeless until a crucial piece of evidence emerges that sends Coop and Ben on a race to catch the killer before someone else dies.

Interview with the Author

What initially got you interested in writing?

I was introduced to creative writing in middle school.  My teacher helped me get a position writing for the local newspaper, which I continued to do for several years.  I never considered writing for a profession and after retirement from my career, decided to pursue my dream of being a novelist.

What genres do you write in?

I write a women’s fiction series and a mystery/private detective series.

What drew you to writing these specific genres?

I’ve always loved to read mysteries and some thrillers and tend to write what I enjoy reading.  I also love characters whose lives are intertwined over several books.  For my women’s fiction series I wanted to tell the story of several women who were in mid-life, rather than concentrating on lives of younger women like so many modern books.

How did you break into the field?

I went to a writing conference while I was in the midst of writing my first book.  That’s where I learned about publishing paths and marketing.  I started with one book and will be releasing my seventh book next month.  It’s been a slow process and I continue to take classes, attend workshops and conferences, and constantly connect with other authors.

What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?

I write to entertain, so my hope is that readers get to escape for a few hours and either relax with my Hometown Harbor Series or engage in a fast-paced whodunit with my Cooper Harrington Detective Novels.

What do you find most rewarding about writing?

I love hearing from readers who enjoy my books.  I was also thrilled when Killer Music won the Gold Medal in Mystery in the 2016 Global E-Book Awards.

What do you find most challenging about writing?

Marketing is definitely the most challenging aspect of being an author.  I’d rather write, but unless an author is well-known, she’s the main person responsible for marketing her work.

What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field?

I would encourage new writers to attend a writing conference.  I recommend they choose a conference that is not too large, so they get some individualized attention and connect with others.

What type of books do you enjoy reading?

Some of my favorite authors are David Baldacci, Daniel Silva, and Lee Child, so I tend to gravitate to the mystery/suspense genre.  I’m also a big fan of British mysteries.  I enjoy several authors in the women’s fiction genre and while on my own author journey have discovered so many new-to-me authors in this category.  I’m always drawn to memorable characters and stories without an excessive amount of bad language or sex scenes.

Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you?

My dad has always been in law enforcement, so I grew up with stories of crimes and mischief in our small town.  I wanted to be a forensic scientist (think Abby on NCIS) before it was cool.  One of my most exciting memories as a child was touring the FBI Academy and their lab.  I’m sure all of this played into my love of mysteries.

What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work?

The best way to connect with me is by signing up for my mailing list at www.tammylgrace.com.  I also post on my Facebook Author Page at www.facebook.com/tammylgrace.books.  You can find all of my books on my Author Page on Amazon at www.amazon.com/author/tammylgrace
