Synopsis
Lacy Marie Crocker’s whimsical pet couture has gained a following in New Orleans’s cozy Garden District, and word of mouth has traveled all the way to her favorite fashion designer, Annie Lane. Lacy’s thrilled when Annie schedules a private session at her home to discuss a companion line for her evening wear, but when Lacy arrives for the appointment, she enters the kitchen to two mewling Siamese cats–and one very dead Annie.
Lacy takes the kittens home to care for them until they can be properly claimed by Annie’s family or friends, but after a busy day of work, she returns home to find them missing. And when Lacy learns the cats are set to inherit Annie’s fortune, she begins to wonder if the killer was after the kittens all along. Now Lacy will stop at nothing to save the Siamese and find justice for Annie–if the killer doesn’t sink his claws into her first.
Luckily, Lacy has the help of handsome NOLA PD homicide detective Jack Oliver to help her catch the cat-napper before its too late in Cat Got Your Cash, the endearing second Kitty Couture mystery from Julie Chase.
Interview With The Author
What initially got you interested in writing? I read a book that gave me an escape when I needed one most. When I put that book down, I knew I wanted to do the same thing for someone else. I’ve been trying ever since.
What genres do you write in? I’m currently writing cozy mystery, thought my romantic suspense titles with Harlequin Intrigue will also begin releasing in January 2018.
What drew you to writing these specific genres? I love the sassy, upbeat feel of a cozy mystery. Strong heroines and brooding detectives make me happy. When I open a new cozy, I feel like I’m sitting down to catch up with an old friend, and all my cares fade away. I wanted to do that for someone else, so I started writing my own cozy stories. As for the romantic suspense….I’m an action adventure / romance junkie and all that creative energy needed an outlet, too. Thankfully, Harlequin knew what to do with it.
How did you break into the field? I’m not sure I’ve broken in as much as bribed my way into the building. I did that by knocking until someone got tired of it and opened the door. Hey, I’m nothing if not tenacious.
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works? I just want readers to get a little break from their day. I want to make them smile.
What do you find most rewarding about writing? I love the creative outlet. My mind is a busy place, and I get blissed out from the whole writing process. I used to clean my house to death, trying to find satisfaction, but it was never enough. Writing keeps me smiling, connected and productive. It’s my second favorite thing next to motherhood. Without writing, I would probably need medicated.
What do you find most challenging about writing? The uncertainty. Just because I love a story, doesn’t mean readers will, and because my goal is to make people smile, their reaction to my work really impacts me. Knowing my stories are hitting the mark makes me insanely happy, but knowing I’ve fallen short breaks my heart.
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field? I think the only advice anyone needs is “Just keep going.” It’s too easy to quit. But you can’t give up. It only takes one yes, and that yes could be the next thing you hear. If you quit, you’ll never know if your big break was one submission away, but you let it go.
What type of books do you enjoy reading? I love cozy mysteries, romance and suspense. I can’t get enough of them, and I never leave home without at least one of those books in my purse.
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you? Probably not. I’m a very basic, introverted, stay at home mom, who’d cheerfully never leave the house if that was a possibility. Thank goodness it isn’t. Instead, you’ll find me at swim meets, gymnastics lessons and middle school band concerts anytime I’m not dreaming up a new story. (Maybe then, too).
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work? You can find me online day or night, amped up on caffeine and wielding a book.
