Synopsis

#10days #findthewoman #getthejob #doNOTfallinlove

When ex-teen star Maizie Albright returns to her Southern hometown of Black Pine, Georgia, she hoped to rid herself of Hollywood tabloid and reality show hell for a new career as a private investigator. Instead, Hollyweird follows her home. Maizie’s costar crushing, but now for her gumshoe boss. Her stage-monster mother still demands screen time. Her latest rival wants her kicked off the set, preferably back to a California prison.

By entangling herself in a missing person’s case, she must reprise her most famous role. The job will demand a performance of a lifetime. But this time, the stakes are real and may prove deadly.

“I was already a huge fan of Larissa Reinhart’s “Cherry Tucker” series, but in her new mystery series, FIFTEEN MINUTES, she had me at the end of the first line: “Donuts.” Maizie Albright is the kind of fresh, fun, and feisty “star detective” I love spending time with, a kind of Nancy Drew meets Lucy Ricardo. Move over, Janet Evanovich. Reinhart is my new “star mystery writer!” — Penny Warner, Author of DEATH OF A CHOCOLATE CHEATER and THE CODE BUSTERS CLUB

“Hollywood glitz meets backwoods grit in this fast-paced ride on D-list
celeb Maizie Albright’s waning star—even as it’s reborn in a spectacular
collision with her nightmarish stage mother, her
deer-pee-scented-apparel-inventing daddy…and a murderer. Sassy, sexy, and
fun, 15 Minutes is hours of enjoyment—and a wonderful start to a fun new
series from the charmingly Southern-fried Reinhart.”
— Phoebe Fox, author of THE BREAKUP DOCTOR series

“Larissa Reinhart’s newest heroine, Maizie Albright, is at once naïve and worldly. As a former child star, she craves life in the real world by becoming a PI, just like the TV character that made her famous. Armed with humor, charm, and stubborn determination, Maizie is a breath of fresh air. I adored every second of 15 Minutes. Viva la Maizie!” — Terri L. Austin, bestselling author of the ROSE STRICKLAND MYSTERIES and the NULL FOR HIRE series.

On The Walking Dead and Why They Influenced My Newest Series Which Is Not About Zombies

If you’ve never seen or read The Walking Dead, it’s pretty dark. There’s lots of violence and gore and drama. It’s man against nature and man against man and man against himself all in one story. Sometimes in one scene.

My books are nothing like that. They’re light and the violence is either off-screen or slapstick. There are no exploding heads, at least not yet. And if there are in future books, hopefully, the explosions are funny.

In my new series, Maizie Albright Star Detective, Maizie’s an ex-child and teen actress whose star imploded in adulthood, leaving her with rehab stints and a reality show. In her last bout of trouble, a kind judge orders her to return to her Georgia hometown, get a job, and leave behind her celebrity lifestyle. Unfortunately, her stage-monster manager-mother follows Maizie back to Black Pine, dragging their reality show with them. While Maizie’s trying to chase her dream of becoming a private investigator (because she played on TV, naturally), her mother’s trying to get her back on the reality show.

So what does that have to do with stabbing zombies in the head?

Well, nothing on the surface. Except the zombies are being killed in and around my hometown in Georgia. Not literally (I hope). But I live near the set of The Walking Dead. Also many other shows and movies, like Drop Dead Diva and Captain America: Winter Soldier and the Hunger Games movies. Hollywood has come to Georgia. In fact, Georgia has the third biggest film industry now, after California and New York. A few miles from where I live, Pinewood Studios recently purchased 700 acres and built sound stages on them where major films are being made, like the newest Spiderman.

It’s all a bit thrilling and very interesting. Particularly when you never expected to live in La-la Land. You’d think things like this wouldn’t happen in rural Georgia. Atlanta, yes. Turner Studios and CNN has been there almost forever (like thirty odd years) and Tyler Perry Studios is up there, too, along with Real Housewives of Atlanta. Atlanta is not Fayette or Coweta county, where Pinewood Studios and The Walking Dead are made. The actors stay up in Atlanta, but we never expected their trailers to live nearby.

Over the last ten years, I’ve been watching the growth of tv and film in my neck of the woods. I remember when Sweet Home Alabama was filmed because of the signs for parking in a field I drove by every day. But when a friend pointed out how they’d been an extra in Drop Dead Diva, I had no idea that was even filmed in Peachtree City (then I discovered their set behind my favorite diner). But it wasn’t until TWD took over the little town next door, Senoia, that the film and movie industry seemed to really explode. In a good way. Now there are tours you can take to visit The Walking Dead locations. It’s so weird.

As the idea for Maizie Albright hatched, I added the “what happens when Hollywood comes to town” to her story. Yes, I wanted to write a story about an actress who once played a detective on TV who wanted to become one in real life. Particularly a naive, positively optimistic but fragile and emotionally stunted actress. Who’s a fish out of water in Georgia. That’s just fun. But to have Hollywood chase her to Georgia, set up camp, and get in the way of her investigations? Talk about a past that haunts you. And because I’ve lived it, I know how Black Pine will react to Maizie, her reality show, and the other shows that will come to town in future stories.

I don’t take on roles in my books, but if I did, I’d be Black Pine, Georgia, in 15 Minutes. Sitting back and watching the drama, not even believing it’s happening in my own backyard.
