Miranda Trent has set up a sweet life in a scenic corner of Appalachia—until she stumbles across the trail of a killer . . .
After inheriting her uncle’s Red River Gorge homestead in Eastern Kentucky—smack dab in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest—Miranda comes up with a perfect business plan for summer tourists: pairing outdoor painting classes with sips of local moonshine, followed by a mouthwatering sampler of the best in southern cooking.
To Miranda’s delight, Paint & Shine is a total success—until someone kills the cook. As the town’s outsider, suspicion naturally falls on Miranda. Murdering the best biscuit baker of Red River Gorge is a high crime in these parts. Miranda will have to prove her innocence before she’s moved from farmhouse to jail cell faster than she can say “white lightning” . . .

I’m delighted to appear today at The Pulp and Mystery Shelf blog. Thank you, Shannon Muir, for hosting me on your site with the Great Escapes Virtual Book Tour.
These days, virtual appearances are all I’ll attend for the release of this first book in the Paint & Shine series. Today is the book birthday for STILL KNIFE PAINTING. It is launched into a world where most bookstores are still closed. The open ones are finding creative ways to keep their staff safe and customers supplied with books.
My biggest concern during these strange times is to stay focused and productive. Both are a major struggle. Although the typical writer loves solitude and most are socially introverted, I have a very social streak. I love meeting readers and other writers. That side is starving and lonely. It’s painful. For the first time in over forty years, I don’t have an upcoming business trip. No conferences, no retreats, no festivals, and sadly, no book signings this year.
My writing organizations, Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and International Thriller Writers, have all held online events and even entire multi-day conferences through the magic of Zoom and CrowdCast. The experience isn’t anywhere near a face-to-face event, but they are fabulous tools for those of us that must shelter-in-place.
Luckily, I have found a venue for bringing readers together to celebrate the launch of this series. We’re going to have a virtual group painting just like the main character, Miranda Trent, teaches on her mountain trails in eastern Kentucky. The first event, hosted by my local Painting with a Twist store, will occur on the evening of July 8. We’re still fleshing out the details, but their talented artists have created a unique painting just for STILL KNIFE PAINTING.
Because these events are broadcast with ZOOM, I can participate with any local Painting with a Twist location. I’m including a chance for a signed book along with a bookmark, some paper coasters, and a sticky notepad as a giveaway. If you search on the national Painting with a Twist website for the St. Petersburg, FL location, it will be scheduled under their events tab. Fingers crossed that I can use this as a new way to keep the social side of my writing personality happy.
